The biggest Claw...EVER!

It all started at the Dundas Valley School of Art. Being a cartoonist there is always that passion to draw on paper. But in 1986 I decided to sketch up some goofy characters and then late night after night in the pottery studio I came up with these whimsical characters.
I still have all of them, they are such a colourful collection.
The biggest Claw...EVER!
Velociraptor walked on only their third and fourth digits. The second digit, for whichVelociraptor is most famous, was highly modified and held retracted off of the ground. It bore a relatively large, sickle-shaped claw, typical of dromaeosaurid and troodontid dinosaurs. This enlarged claw, which could be over 6.5 cm (2.6 in) long around its outer edge, was most likely a predatory device used to tear into prey, possibly delivering a fatal blow....Sooooooo I decided to sculpt one out in clay. The pencil is there to give you some sense of size comparison. I took this to show the kids at the Dundas Valley School of Art, they all wanted to make one.
PIRAHNAAA...Get Out Of The Waterrr!!!
There are various myths about piranhas such as how they can dilacerate a human body or cattle in seconds. These myths refer specifically toSerrasalmus nattereri, the red-bellied piranha. A recurrent myth is that they can be attracted by blood and are exclusive carnivores. A Brazilian myth called "piranha cattle" states that they sweep the rivers at high speed and attack the first of the cattle entering the water allowing the rest of the group to traverse the river. These myths were dismissed through research by Helder Queiroz and Anne Magurran and published on Biology Letters. Nevertheless, a study in Suriname found that piranhas may occasionally attack humans, particularly when water levels are low.
Welllllllll...I think if I have a paper cut, I won't be swimming in the Amazon anytime soon.
The sculpture was created for a local art auction and I really didn't want to part with it. It SOLD!...so I will mold up another...and another...and another...Heck!...how about a school of them?
More pieces fresh from the kiln, ready to be painted.
More Sculptoons Coming Soon
